Minister Magoha dismisses claims of postponing national exams

The Minister of Education, George Magoha, has denied the allegations of delaying the dates of the national exams and extending the period of this term.

Magoha said that the national examinations for the eighth grade KCPE and the fourth grade KCSE will be conducted as scheduled from November.

He added that the election that was held did not greatly disturb the schedule of studies in this country, and it cannot be a major reason for the delay of the national exams.

"Our children are smart and patient. Most of them had finished their syllabus. They have enough time to do revisions and their safety is important," Magoha explained.

The chairman of the national union of parents, Nicholas Maiyo, had asked Magoha to extend the school term due to the disruption caused by the August 9 election.

Parents, through their representatives, had also called for a reduction in school fees if the term is not extended.

"Schools were supposed to open on August 11, but it was pushed to August 18. Our request is that the school calendar be extended or if that is not possible, they should reduce fees," Maiyo said.

On September 16, the second term will end, and students will have just one week off before returning for the third term of the 2022 academic year.
