Man denies stealing woman's phone after night visit

A man who allegedly stole a woman's mobile phone after allegedly visiting her home has denied the charges.

Jairus Wamachio Ngokho was accused of stealing Dianah Mulongo's phone before Kibera senior judge Charles Mwaniki.

According to the charge sheets, the two allegedly got to know each other from a dating website and made arrangements for a visit to her home.

According to the indictment, the accused committed the offense on May 5, Kawangware in Nairobi county and is said to have gone into hiding after the visit.

The woman reported the incident to the police and the accused was arrested after the police conducted their investigation.

On Friday, he was accused of stealing a phone in violation of the penal code.

Mwaniki released the suspect on a bond of Sh50,000 and an alternative cash guarantee of Sh20,000.

The judge also ordered the case to be rescheduled to August 31, 2022 for an early hearing and set hearing dates.

The court also ordered the defendant to be given witness statements and written evidence that the prosecution will rely on during the trial.
