World Cup ticket sales reach 2.5 million

Doha, Qatar (AFP). A total of 2.45 million tickets have been sold for this year's World Cup finals in Qatar after more than half a million were sold in the latest round, the organizers said yesterday.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has said that 520,532 tickets were sold in the period from July 5 to August 16, while Qatar, the United States, England, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), France, Argentina, Brazil and Germany leading to buying tickets.

Fifa has explained that the most popular matches in ticket sales include the group stage matches between Brazil and Cameroon and Serbia, Portugal and Uruguay, Costa Rica and Germany, as well as Australia against Denmark.

In June, organizers said there had been record demand for tickets at the time when 1.2 million tickets were sold. That rate is now doubled.
