Cristiano Ronaldo says he feels 'betrayed' by Manchester United

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo feels betrayed by Manchester United and that he is forced to leave the club.

Ronaldo promised in August that he would give his version of life in Europe as he hoped.

The long-time Portuguese player has now broken his silence in an interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV

The Manchester United club has been asked to make a statement in response to Ronaldo's claims.

United, who beat Fulham 2-1 on Sunday, are fifth in the Premier League under Ten Hag in his first season in charge.

Asked if United's management was trying to drive him away from the club, Ronaldo said: "Yes, not only the coach [Erik ten Hag], but also two or three other people at the club. I felt betrayed.

Asked again if the club's top brass were trying to get rid of him, the 37-year-old said: "I don't care. People have to listen to the truth.

"Yeah, I felt betrayed and I felt like other people didn't want me here, not only this year but last year as well."

Ronaldo says he 'disrespects' Ten Hag

Ronaldo has been out of action due to undisclosed illnesses since leading United in a 3-1 defeat by Aston Villa on November 6.

He was withdrawn from the Premier League match at Chelsea last month by Ten Hag after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham three days earlier.

"I have no respect for him because he shows no respect for me," Ronaldo told Morgan. "If you don't respect me, I will never respect you."

The interview will be shown for two nights on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ronaldo also talks to Morgan about the loss of his son in April and how he was touched by the tribute given to him by Liverpool fans in the match against United at Anfield a few days later.

All the interviews are for 90 minutes but Morgan has written a version in the Sun newspaper which clearly shows the contempt Ronaldo has for the way he found United since he returned to the club there while the fans are enjoying the move in August 2021.

"I think the fans should know the truth," he says. "I wish the best for this club. This is why I came to Manchester United.

"Since [former manager] Sir Alex [Ferguson] left, I haven't seen any changes at the club. Nothing has changed.

"I love Manchester United, I love the fans, they are always on my side. But if they want to do it differently... they have to change a lot of things."

Ronaldo says his view of the club is similar to Ferguson, who was instrumental in his return to Old Trafford from Juventus when it looked like he might join Manchester City.

"He knows more than anyone that the club is not on the path it should be," added Ronaldo.

"He knows. Everyone knows. People who don't see that... it's because they don't want to see; they're blind."

Ronaldo never 'knew' Rangnick

Ronaldo's former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was United's manager when the Portuguese returned to the club before being replaced by Ralf Rangnick and then current coach Ten Hag.

Regarding Rangnick, Ronaldo said: "If you've never been, how can you be the boss of Manchester United? I've never even heard of him."

Wayne Rooney has criticized former United team-mate Ronaldo's behavior this season and the Portugal international also criticized the former England striker.

"I don't know why he criticizes me so much... maybe because he finished playing football and he sees that I am still playing at a high level," said Ronaldo.

"I won't say that I look better than him. Something that is true..."
