"Every time I touched the ball they were making monkey noises"-Victor Wanyama
Kenyan soccer star Victor Wanyama who once played for Tottenham Hotspurs has told how he once faced racism in soccer while in Europe.
Wanyama, who currently plays for the CF Montreal club in Canada, said such cases of racism are not a good example for football.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, the player gave an example of how the fans were making noises like monkeys in a match in Russia.
'Sometimes it doesn't bother me but it's a bad thing, sometimes when I'm alone and then I think about what happened and then I see it was wrong'
Wanyama says a lot needs to be done in Europe to stop discrimination in football.
"They warn that they should be fined heavily or banned from football," he says
Regarding the proposal of some clubs to say that they will not register African players because they are sometimes required to represent their countries, Wanyama says that there should be respect for those African countries.
The star was recently at Spurs but he says he went to inform his former colleagues and has no plans to return to the club.
