Winnie is attacked on Twitter after being appointed EALA
The daughter of the veteran political leader in the country, Raila Odinga, Winnie Odinga has expressed her gratitude after being among those who managed to enter the final list of politicians who will represent Kenya in the parliament of the East African region, EALA.
Immediately after being appointed, Winnie through her Twitter page showed her happiness and thanked all those who believed in her despite strong objections from some leaders who called for her nomination by the Azimio coalition on the basis that she is Odinga's daughter.
Winnie said that her victory goes directly as a memorial to all those who were hurt in the political violence witnessed five years ago in Nairobi after she and Raila's father returned to the country from abroad - at a time when political heat was blowing in the country due to the NASA alliance, that period, was led and his father strongly opposed the results of the presidential election.
"Five years ago today, when we left JKIA, 49 people lost their lives. I am still here by the grace of God. Today, I have been elected as a member of EALA. I am humbled. Thank you. I am ready. This is for all those we lost along the way. There is no me without you," wrote Winnie.
Her remarks seemed to displease some people who criticized him for the assumption that he got a ticket to EALA under the guise of people who died fighting for Odinga.
"So do you remember those who lost their lives because you were appointed to EALA?" one by the name of Victor Okuna asked him.
"She means the people who were killed 5 years ago, their blood was a sacrifice and that what was fighting for her, she has been cleansed with the blood of the poor Kenyans who were killed at that time," McGriffins also wrote.
