Can Fulham Secure Safety and Extend Their Clean Sheet Record Against Wolves?
Fulham's manager, Marco Silva, was swift to commend his team's "resilience, desire, and belief" after their 1-0 victory over Brighton. This win brought them to at least ten points more than their total in the last two Premier League (PL) seasons and, more crucially, just two points shy of the widely recognized 40-point threshold for avoiding relegation.
In order to achieve this goal, Fulham will have to put an end to their five-game winless streak against Wolves (D2, L3). However, they seem well-prepared to do so, having won six of their last nine PL matches since the season's restart (W6, D1, L2). Furthermore, Fulham is on course for their fourth straight clean sheet in the top-flight for the first time since 2001!
Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is well aware of Fulham's impressive defensive capabilities. This might spell bad news for Wolves since they were unable to score against the worst defensive team in the PL, Bournemouth, in their last match. Although Lopetegui's debut season has been mixed (W4, D1, L3), their 13 points have been vital in keeping them three points clear of the relegation zone.
Wolves, who narrowly won their last trip to Fulham by a 1-0 margin, will aim to secure back-to-back wins at Craven Cottage for the first time since 1962, and potentially extend their lead from the drop zone. It is expected that this game will be a tense affair, as Wolves' league matches have produced an average of just 2.13 goals, which is lower than three other sides.
Keep an eye on Fulham's Manor Solomon, who scored from the bench in their last two matches and could be the first Israeli player in over 30 years to score in three consecutive top-flight games. Wolves' João Gomes, who scored their winning goal on his PL debut, could be the one to watch from the bench.
Interesting fact: Out of nine PL games held on Fridays, only one ended in a draw (W4, D1, L4) for Wolves.
