Man Utd to face Newcastle in the EFL Cup final

Manchester United qualified for the semi-final stage of the EFL Cup in the second leg of the semi-final against Nottingham Forest and earned a ticket for the rematch of Wembley 1999 against Newcastle.

Second-half goals from Anthony Martial and Fred ensured victory for Erik ten Hag's men on the night, although their place in the final was secure thanks to their 3-0 first-leg win at the City Ground.

Martial scoring his sixth goal of the season after a pass intended for Marcus Rashford returned to the French striker 17 minutes before the end of the game.

Within 180 seconds, United had another goal when Bruno Fernandes put Rashford through with a brilliant cross, which the Englishman headed to Fred, who flicked the ball into the empty net with his knee.

New signing Marcel Sabitzer watched the match closely as United set themselves on course for their first trophy since 2017.

Although their clean sheet does not match Newcastle's, United know that if they fail to lift the trophy this season it will be the club's longest streak of cash since they won the European Championship in 1968.
