General Secretary of the Union of Trade Unions (COTU) Francis Atwoli has called on Kenyans to remain calm amidst the intrigues of the post-election results as President Uhuru Kenyatta's government prepares to pave the way. to the new leadership.

Speaking in Auki Village, Meru County, during the funeral of late COTU leader Isaiah Kubai on Friday, Atwoli called for calm from political divisions. Atwoli said he is determined to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court following the decision of the Azimio coalition party to challenge the results of the August 9 presidential polls in which William Ruto was declared the winner.

"Kenyans held a peaceful election, which has been witnessed around the world. I want us to remain peaceful. Patience is key, we advised Odinga to follow the court route, he agreed. William Ruto also agreed to accept the court's findings. If they have already accepted, we will also accept the results," Atwoli said.

"The one who will take after all things, tell us this is the President, we will accept him for our peace, and Kenya will move on."

The COTU chief also assured workers across the country that peace would prevail throughout the country during the process as the government had put in place contingency plans.

"I want to thank the government because we were afraid that if this thing continued for a long time, many workers would lose their jobs. But Joseph Kinyua defended the workers that there is peace, people should go back to work and now everything is normal," he said.

Likewise, the outspoken leader also warned social media users against inciting political groups against one another while explaining the dangers of violence.
