Accept new president after petition - Atwoli

COTU General Secretary Francis Atwoli has called on Kenyans to accept the new president after the decision of the Supreme Court, for the sake of peace.

In a video that reached Radio Jambo, Atwoli who is a partner of the Azimio coalition said people should not focus on one thing because we must continue and develop the country.

"The way we advised Raila is that we must go through the legal process and wait for the decision and even President-elect William Ruto said he will accept the court's decision," he said.

He also asked those who use social media to incite others to cause violence to stop because the country is not ready for that situation.

"Let the court do its job, and before that let's maintain peace. Those who talk about violence should look back to when we were looking for freedom, if things were the way they were, we are not ready to go back there."

Azimio's presidential candidate Raila Odinga said he will move to the Supreme Court to contest the election results that were announced on Monday August 15.

Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wafula Chebukati on Monday announced William Ruto as the president-elect.

Ruto got 7,176,141 votes while Raila got 6,942,930 votes.

Raila claimed that Ruto's announcement as president-elect was invalid.

"No one should take the law into their own hands. We are following constitutional and legal means to cancel Chebukati's illegal and unconstitutional declaration. We are sure that justice will be done," he said.

The law allows a complaint in the Supreme Court when one candidate feels dissatisfied with the election results.
