Raila Odinga church fellowship mystery resolved
The Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya Jackson Ole Sapit has confirmed that ODM leader Raila Odinga is a member of their church.
Speaking on Saturday after a meeting of religious leaders and the Azimio presidential candidate's family, Sapit emphasized that Raila's family members participate in the Anglican church.
"I want to confirm that this family belongs to the Anglican church. I know there have been many people who doubt where they worship," Sapit said.
The bishop was accompanied by other religious leaders and various local sects in the visit to the home of the former prime minister in Karen street, Nairobi.
He explained that the purpose of the visit was to provide pastoral services and pray with Raila's family.
"We are here as his pastors and a union of people of faith to come to provide pastoral care and pray with them," he said.
Sapit noted that the family of the presidential candidate is in charge of peace in the country despite the results of the presidency not being in their favor.
Raila, on his part, thanked the religious leaders who visited him and assured them that they are looking forward to finding a solution through peaceful means.
"We have said that we want to see that if justice is done then peace will be found. As the late Desmond Tutu said, without truth there can be no peace. Similarly, without peace there can be no reconciliation," he said.
He said there are many Kenyans who are still shocked by the results announced on Monday while others are celebrating.
"We have said that we do not want to see chaos or violence in our country. We want to see peace lasting and that is why we have decided to use the law and go before the Supreme Court to send the evidence we have to show that the election was a joke. I am doing this to defend our nation's democracy," He said.
On Monday, the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wafula Chebukati on Monday announced William Ruto as the president-elect after receiving 7,176,141 votes while Raila got 6,942,930 votes.
Raila however claimed that Ruto's announcement as president-elect was invalid.
