Governor-elect of Nakuru Kihika to be sworn in on Friday

Nakuru governor-elect Susan Kihika will be officially sworn in on August 25.

Kihika won the gubernatorial race in the August 9 election, after ousting former governor Lee Kinyajui.

"The transition process is ongoing and almost complete," the chairman of the Office of the Governor's Committee Benjamin Njoroge said on Monday.

He said the celebrations will be open to the public to come and witness.

More than 10,000 are expected to grace the occasion.

"The event will be held at the Nakuru ASK exhibition ground," he added.

Njoroge noted that the date was chosen after a committee of 17 members discussed the matter.

She was declared the winner of the contest by the Independent Supervisor of Elections and Boundaries in the County, Joseph Melle after getting 440,707 votes against his nearest competitor, Lee Kinyanjui of the Jubilee party who got 225,623 votes. Kihika will be the third governor of Nakuru County.

Kinuthia Mbugua was the first and was defeated by Lee in the 2017 election.
