Winnie Odinga: 'Being Raila's daughter is a hardship'
Winnie Odinga, the daughter of the Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga, has said that her family name has caused her to be "harassed" and "tortured" and that it was not a political advantage as some critics claim.
Winnie Odinga, who is vying to be a member of the East African National Assembly (EALA), disputed the idea on Citizen TV Kenya that her family connections were behind her nomination.
Ms Odinga claimed that critics "don't want to highlight what I can do" because of who her father is.
However, she admitted that her family name was also a "blessing" that allowed her to travel the world and understand how the African continent can work together.
EALA is the legislative body of the intergovernmental regional community, the East African Community (EAC), and members represent their countries for a five-year term.
