These are the four best foods for improving memory
Forgetfulness or memory loss is a rapidly growing problem among people. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are approximately 50 million memory loss patients around the world, this number is expected to triple by 2050.
WHO says that apart from affecting the patient himself, the disease of memory loss also affects his family and increases the economic costs for society. It is expected that by 2030 the cost will reach 2 trillion dollars per year.
Logically, this is a problem that should be addressed with all its might and because there is currently no cure, WHO emphasizes the importance of prevention due to the importance of memory in human life.
Types of Memory
Psychologist Kimberley Wilson says there are three types of memory loss, short-term, where a person's ability to remember things that happened a short time ago. For example, someone calls you a number and you dial it without writing it down.
Working memory, which makes a person understand something and contribute ideas to ongoing conversations, but long-term memories are those that make a person remember long-term events, even years and years.
'what we eat affects how well our memories work', says Kimberly.
The elderly are the biggest victims
The problem of memory loss mostly affects older people.
"It's true that older people, especially from 70 years old, get this problem too, although some younger people may get it but rarely", says Mwajombe Laurian from Tanzania, a teacher who provides nutrition education for health, including helping memory.
WHO, Mwajombe who spoke to the BBC and even psychologist Kimberley all emphasize the importance of addressing the problem and the easiest and most proven way is through food.
Among the foods that can help you with memory are the following
1. Purple grapes
There are several types of grapes, the most popular of which are green and purple. Researchers confirm that purple grapes have a significant contribution to memory.
For adults with memory problems drinking half a liter of purple grape juice every day for 12 weeks (three months) will help them.
Purple grapes contain something called Anthocyanins and Polyphenols that give it a rich color that is important. Polyphenols are also found in other fruits such as apples and pears.
During the digestion of these foods after eating, they help to make the blood vessels more flexible and move blood towards the brain.
2. Blueberries
"Children eating 240 grams (about a quarter kilo) of Blueberries every day help them remember many words and remember them correctly two hours later", says Kimberley.
As with purple grapes Blueberries also contain Anthocyanins and Polyphenols. Like grapes do to the blood vessels, Blueberries also make the blood vessels more flexible and blood flow to the brain. This helps bring in more energy, nutrients and oxygen.
3. Chocolate
"Good news for chocolate lovers, because chocolates contain cocoa which improves blood circulation in the brain, but it should be 'dark chocolate' which contains 70% of cocoa nutrients (Cocoa solids) to get its benefits", says Kimberley.
But experts say it is important to eat a complete diet with green vegetables, fruits, proteins such as fish and beans because they have great benefits for the human brain.
4. Green Tea
Stopping helps protect you from cancer, the risk of heart disease, obesity also helps improve mental health.
This tea has great benefits on memory. Especially those with short-term memory problems, green tea, can help them a lot.
