Virginia McLaurin: Old Lady who danced with the Obamas dies at 113
A Washington DC woman who achieved her dream of dancing with President Barack Obama in the White House has died, at the age of 113.
Virginia McLaurin was 106 years old when she met the first black president and his wife in 2016.
"Let me tell you, I'm very happy," she told President Obama at the time. "A black president, yay, and his black wife."
In 2014, the woman started an online petition to see him. "My name is Virginia McLaurin," she wrote, "I live in Washington DC. I was born in 1909."
"I have never met the President. I never thought I would see a black President because I was born in the South and I didn't think it would happen. "I am very happy and I would like to meet you and your family if possible."
The former seamstress continued: “I remember the days before President Hoover. "I remember we didn't have electricity, I used a kerosene lamp, I remember the first Ford car.
"My husband was in the Army. I lost my husband in 1941. I've never been in DC ever since. I was living here when Martin Luther King was killed."
