Egerton University Partners with Abrar University to Boost Doctoral Research in Eastern Africa
Egerton University has announced its intention to establish an academic partnership with Abrar University of Somalia, aimed at expanding the pool of doctoral students and supervisors, developing research capacity, and sharing facilities and expertise.
The partnership will involve the exchange of students and joint research projects, among other initiatives, to enhance academic cooperation between the two universities based on equality, reciprocity, and mutual understanding.
Both institutions will collaborate on research activities, post-graduate research project supervision, and the organization of conferences, workshops, and webinars in various fields such as agriculture, medicine, education, health sciences, engineering, innovation, humanities, and social sciences.
The partnership is designed to improve the quality of supervision of post-graduate research projects and increase capacity in doctoral degrees. By strengthening supervision, the institutions will be able to support more candidates to complete their studies.
This model enables students to have access to supervisors from either university, thus benefiting from a broader range of expertise.
Abrar University is committed to building international partnerships, nurturing global citizenship, engaging the global research community, and attracting talented students and funding.
The heavy workload and inadequate capacity have been identified as some of the drawbacks to the aspiration of quality PhD research output in Eastern Africa. The partnership between Egerton University and Abrar University is expected to address these challenges by increasing capacity in doctoral degrees and improving the quality of post-graduate research project supervision.
Abrar University is a private institution established in 2014 by an Act of the Imam Shafi Foundation (ISHF) and is accredited by the National Commission of Higher Education of Somalia.
This partnership will help Egerton University to increase its visibility and reputation in Eastern Africa, improve collaboration and knowledge transfer between the two institutions, and create opportunities for future activities, including research income and funding.
