Huawei ICT Competition Celebrates Top ICT Talent from Kenyan Universities
Today, the Huawei ICT competition 2022-2023 celebrated twelve exceptional university students from various institutions. The primary objective of this competition is to promote the growth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) talent and foster the integration of industry and academia.
Huawei is committed to creating a talent ecosystem and has implemented several programs to assist students in transitioning from academia to the ICT industry. Since its inception in Kenya in 2018, over 12,000 Kenyan students from 40 universities and colleges have participated in the competition. Globally, the competition has attracted 150,000 students from 2,000 universities and colleges across 82 countries.
Huawei offers training in four tracks: network, cloud, innovation, and computing. Additionally, the company supports students by providing a free learning space, advanced training, Huawei certification, and internship opportunities.
The top performer in the cloud category was Brian Rutto from Laikipia University, while Riwell Wambugu from Cooperative University was the overall winner in the network category. In the network category, Denis Fundi from Laikipia University and Humphrey Mwambanji from Machakos University received the second-place award. In the cloud category, Rush Morgan from USIU and Julius Mugambi from Zetech University received the second-place award.
In the network category, Ryan Chirongo from UON, Martin Mwiti from Machakos University, and Collins Mwirigi from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, were awarded third place. In the cloud category, Tyler Mercy from JKUAT, Dan Ronoh from Laikipia University, and Cavin Karema from Africa Nazarene came in third place.
The competition also recognized excellent instructors who received awards for their contributions. In the network category, Jonathan Mwai from JKUAT, Franklin Mutisya from Machakos University, and Alex Kibet from Laikipia University were recognized. In the cloud category, Samuel Kariuki from Zetech and Ruth Wambua from UON were awarded.
The Huawei ICT competition provides students with the opportunity to enhance their skills and gain experience in the ICT industry.
