Four University Students Arrested in Connection to Violent Robberies in Nairobi's Suburbs

In a recent development, four university students are being interrogated by the police on suspicion of being part of a dangerous gang behind the increasing incidents of violent robberies in Ruai, Juja, Kayole and surrounding areas in Nairobi. The arrest was a result of a joint operation by the undercover police officers based in Makadara, Ruai, Embakasi, and Kayole.

The operation was sparked by intelligence leads that a 19-year-old Kenyatta University student was part of the criminal gang. Upon his arrest, he led the officers to his three accomplices who are also freshers studying Development Studies at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and residing at Kwa Benson apartments in Juja's Container area.

During the operation, the police conducted a thorough search in the suspects' single room, which led to the recovery of a Glock pistol, an empty pistol magazine, a white plastic face mask, and two laptops suspected to be stolen property among other items. The crime scene was processed by detectives based at DCI Thika, and the suspects were then taken to Juja police station for further interrogation before arraignment.

It is not the first time university students have been arrested over criminal activities, and the police are investigating to determine if there are more players involved in the crime syndicate. Cases of robbery have been on the rise in the areas, and the suspects are linked to the same.

In a statement, the police said, "We will not hesitate to take action against anyone, regardless of their social status, who is involved in criminal activities that threaten the peace and security of the citizens. We call upon members of the public to continue providing us with information that can help us in the fight against crime."

The news of the arrest of the university students has sent shockwaves throughout the city, and many are concerned about the increasing incidents of crime. The police are committed to ensuring the safety of citizens and will continue to take all necessary measures to apprehend the perpetrators of crime and bring them to justice.
