Senator Wants ODM To Expel MPs Who Met President Ruto

Amidst the political turmoil in Kenya, a senator from Migori has written an incisive letter to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, recommending the termination of its Members of Parliament (MPs) who met with President William Ruto in State House. The letter, which was addressed to the ODM Chairman and Secretary General, argues that the legislators violated Section 14 of the Political Parties Act, bringing about an "immense embarrassment" to the party and its leadership.

Senator Eddy Oketch, in the letter, claims that the MPs in question have associated themselves with a different political party, promoting its ideologies, interests, and policies. He cites Section 14A (1), which states that a member of a political party may resign if they promote the interests of another party.

In light of this, the senator has demanded the removal of the names of Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, MPs Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), and Caroli Omondi (Suba South) from the party register within seven days. Additionally, he also calls for disciplinary actions against the MPs, including their expulsion from the ODM party if found guilty.

Furthermore, the senator has requested the MPs to be removed from all parliamentary leadership positions and committees until the party reaches a decision on the matter. As of now, an "Azimio la Umoja" meeting is underway at Maanzoni Lodge in Machakos, where disciplinary action against the MPs is expected to be taken.

One of the dissenting MPs, Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o, has already been kicked out of the meeting, with the reason yet to be confirmed. In a press statement, Jalang'o expressed his disappointment, stating that a member of Raila Odinga's security asked him to leave the meeting hall. He expressed his love for Baba and his membership in the ODM party.
