One case of Ebola has been confirmed in Beni DRC

A new case of Ebola disease has been confirmed in the city of Beni in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the INRB Medical Research Institute in the country.

According to Reuters, the tests showed that the case is linked to the genes of the 2018-2020 outbreak of the disease in the north of Kivuna, Ituri region, which caused the death of almost 2300 people, said a statement from Placide Mbala, Head of the Pathogen Genomics Laboratory at the Institute of INRB.

Another outbreak of the disease killed six people last year.

The latest outbreak in the country came from a different part of the country and was declared over in July after causing five deaths.

Ebola can sometimes persist in the eyes, central nervous system and body fluids of survivors and erupt years later.

The case was confirmed in a woman who died on August 15 after being admitted to a hospital in Beni on July 23, the statement said.
