How I met my wife Rachel- Ruto

Like any other couple, Rachel Ruto and President-elect William Ruto have their own story of how they met.

Going down memory lane, Ruto, in an earlier interview, about 10 years ago, said he met the love of his life in a church they both attended.

"She was a member of the choir like me, we were all members of the Evangelism team called the North Rift evangelism team," he said.

Ruto said he was an evangelist at the time.

"We were going on missions together in different places. She did an education course," he said.

Rachael, after her secondary education at Butere Girls' High School, studied for a Bachelor of Education at Kenyatta University.

"She was sent to Kessup Girls High School for teaching practice and I was generally close and that's when our love story developed. The rest is history," Ruto said.

Rachel and Ruto got married in 1991 and currently have seven children.

In 2016, Ruto was touched by the case of a girl named Nadia who was abandoned as a baby and named after her mother, Cherono.

"The story of Nadia who was found buried, her body partially rotting and abandoned as a baby and has been under the care of the Sisters of Madre Ippolata Children's Home touched my heart. I have named her Cherono, after my mother and made her part of my family," he said on his Facebook post.

In December 2020, Ruto and Rachel celebrated their wedding anniversary at 52 orphanages in Uasin Gishu County. He was also celebrating their birthdays.

Ruto who was celebrating his 54th birthday and 28 years of marriage at his home in Sugoi, urged Kenyan families to help those from disadvantaged communities.

Ruto was announced as the president-elect and Rachel is undoubtedly a heartbeat to be the next wife of Kenya's president.

His humble character along with his religious qualities have attracted many.

For Ruto, his meteoric rise in the political space is linked to Rachel's prayers.
