Kenyans should stop the politics of money and focus on policy

Over the years, we have been pushing for good leadership in Kenya.

The election has been held and now we are in the final stage, but in this country things have remained the same, because whenever they change, they remain the same. In a sense, the more things change, the more they remain the same.

The death of an election commission officer a few days ago is not a new thing here in Kenya during elections. Are Kenyans satisfied with what we have witnessed, from the brawl inside the Bomas hall while most of the IEBC commissioners distanced themselves from the election results announced by the commission chairman Wafula Chebukati.

For several days, the media stopped showing us what was happening. We Kenyans were left in the lurch as each of us took on the responsibility of counting the votes, many however were burdened with counting 14 million votes. Much has happened and there is much that still leaves many of us with more questions than answers.

In this election, I have seen a lot that we should fix as Kenyans. We have seen many politicians pouring money in many places in this country. It became the politics of money and not policy. Most of us don't even know which policies motivated our decision to vote for certain people, but what we do know is how much money each one was giving.

We made the politicians start showing their tyranny who would allocate more money than the other. We will be left scratching our heads, because these funds will be returned. Politicians took loans and even auctioned their assets to finance their campaigns.

If we focus on the salary of a politician in a period of five years and then compare it with the amount of money they spent, of course they cannot recover that money with their salaries alone. Fellow Kenyans, ask yourself a question, how will they get this money.

Votes here in Kenya are accompanied by strong feelings, why exactly?, we should ask ourselves questions like these. What? All these politicians are interested in representing us and treating us well, and why should someone invest a large amount of money to represent you?. We are the ones to blame for this situation.

The time has come when a politician cannot greet his people with an empty hand. Sir, let something calm down. His Excellency cannot attend mass without the contribution of the church. Most of us now look at politicians on the scale of the donations they give and the depth of their pockets. We regret and gnash our teeth wondering why we don't have the progress we want.

If we don't change our concept of self-motivation about better choices, we will continue to grind our teeth. The cost of living will continue to rise and we are the ones to blame.

Kenyans should stop the politics of money and focus on policy.
