Is the economy bad? Safaricom to close Two Rivers branch

Safaricom to close Two Rivers branch

The communication company Safaricom has scared Kenyans about the state of the economy in the country as well as the business environment after announcing that they are closing their existing store in the Two Rivers area of Nairobi.

Through their official Facebook page, the largest telecommunications company in the country, in what many people have said is a rare occurrence, issued a notice to stop providing services in their branch located in those areas from September one.

"As we continue to improve our services to meet and better meet the needs of our customers, we would like to inform our customers about the closure of our Two Rivers branch from the very end of the day on August 31 this year," Safaricom announced.

They also appealed to their customers near the area and who were relying on their services from the Two Rivers branch not to worry and continue to get those services from the nearby Village Market branch.

"Starting from September, our customers in those areas will continue to receive our services at the Village Market branch or nearby branches," Safaricom informed.

Safaricom's announcement to close one of its branches was received with great shock by the company's customers as many see it as one of the most successful companies in the country due to the large profits they make from millions of customers who prefer their services.

Others asked to know whether it is the bad economic situation or the environment that has turned the tide against the company while others said that Safaricom is falling and causing concern in many businesses that depend on the company not only for telephone services but also in doing business sell and buy online.

"It is bad if Safaricom slows down. The worst administration since independence,” one by the name of Ndúmia Nkwire Cíonthe commented on the page.

The economic situation in the country is deteriorating as many businesses, especially the low-end ones, continue to be severely affected due to the high cost of buying wholesale products to sell to consumers at retail prices.
