Ukraine conflict: 10 million Ukrainians without electricity after new Russian attacks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that 10 million Ukrainians are without electricity after new missile attacks by Russia.
At least seven people were killed in the attacks, with the number expected to rise.
"We are doing everything to fix the supply," Mr Zelensky said in his late night speech.
Ukraine's air defense managed to shoot down six missiles and five drones, he added.
On Thursday, Russia hit Ukraine with new missile strikes, hitting more power plants and other civilian buildings less than two days after one of its heaviest bombings since the start of the war.
Seven people were killed when a missile hit a block of flats in Vilnyansk, near the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian president's office said.
An eastern gas plant and a missile factory in Dnipro were among the latest targets, officials say.
Those facing blackouts are mainly in the capital, Kyiv, the western city of Vinnytsia, the port city of Odesa in the southwest and Sumy in the northeast.
Mr Zelensky accused Russia of destroying his people's electricity and gas supplies.
The Ukrainian leader repeated his call for Ukraine's allies to provide "full protection of Ukraine's airspace", saying that doing so would encourage Russia to end the war.
Moscow has looked to justify its recent attacks by accusing Kyiv of being "unwilling" to negotiate.
Meanwhile, state-owned energy company Naftogaz said its gas plants in eastern Ukraine had suffered a "major attack".
