Kenyans Wake Up To Bad News As Cost of Ugali set to Increase
Over the past year, Kenyans have been struggling to make ends meet due to the high cost of living. Unfortunately, the situation is about to get even worse, as the price of the staple food, ugali, is set to increase.
Millers have issued a warning that the country is facing an imminent maize crisis, which has been caused by a combination of internal and external factors. Unless the government takes action, there will be a severe shortage of maize flour by March 2023.
One of the main reasons for the crisis is the rising global prices of maize, which has made millers reluctant to import the commodity. In addition, the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), which is responsible for storing the nation's maize reserves, has run out of stock.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the current stock of maize at the NCPB is only six million bags, which is enough to sustain the country for just one month. This situation has caused serious concern among Kenyans, and many have taken to the internet to voice their opinions.
The lack of action from the William Ruto-led government has drawn heavy criticism from a significant number of Kenyans.
